When Moore's Law was in full effect, it didn't make sense to
    ruthlessly =

    would double p=
erformance. Developers only started to have to think
    about parallelizatio=

    Moore's Law started slowing =
down in the mid-2000s. Prior to Fable, it
felt like a waste to spend too =
much time improving coding harnesses or
context strategies, as a new mode=
l would arrive at the same price or
cheaper in just a few months that wou=
ld cover most of the problem.
Fable is incredible, but the cost is so hig=

    Amazon's all-electric toaster-shaped Zo=

started rolling out the vehicles across San Francisco and Las Vegas. Tesla=

AMAZON'S TOASTER-SHAPED ROBOTAXIS ARE HITTING THE ROAD (7 MINUTE
    READ) [9]

Amazon's all-electric toaster-shaped Zoox taxis are the first
robotaxis offering rides on the roads without standard driver features
like a dashboard or pedals. They can drive in either direction and
hold up to four passengers sitting facing each other. Amazon has
started rolling out the vehicles across San Francisco and Las Vegas.
Tesla's Cybercab lacks a steering wheel and pedals, but it has not
received the same regulatory approval as Zoox to begin offering rides
    to the public.

I worked for Zoox (head of core firmware) 2019-2025. The "toaster" joke is older than that. <shrug> I think the vehicle looks cool. And it is definitely safer and more comformtable than the backseat of most "cars". Hopefully you can ride in one some day.

Not sure what you're referring to, maybe you're referring to the arm rest. It's in a good spot for your elbow, if you want it. I rode them every (week) day for a couple of years, even before they improved the cushions, and I'd take it over your random Uber or taxi always, if it were available (and I hope someday it is widely available). As it is right now, you have to be in Vegas or parts of San Francisco to ride in one.

No passenger can hit a brake pedal, no (there aren't any pedals). There is an emergency call button and an emergency door release, and I think that's all there is available to riders with regards to "malfunction" response.

    Regards,

Yeah really. You can call for help when falling off a cliff.
What if you need to halt the vehicle to stop a collision with a pedestrian or Another vehicle or a train. Nuts.

Perfect example of over-trusting technology. I'll pass, and drive myself. ;)

That's certainly your right, but just know that it's already been decidely proven that robotaxis are safer drivers than humans, on average. By a lot. https://youtu.be/fNBYXtGFvfU?si=LpCCQ_wg15WMhnQc

There still should be an emergency stop that halts the vehicle immediately.

I know _I_ drive well, but have you seen other people driving? Man, if you could just replace them all with robot drivers, it'd be so much better for everyone.
